Training camp in Potchefstroom went super well, and I've gotten used to being back at home again. I'll shortly attend another brief training camp in Tenerife to fine-tune some things.

Woo-hooo!!! That's what I call a comeback! 13 months after my knee surgery I won silver at the German championships, with 8.01s! I am extremely pleased. Many thanks to my coach, who had a lot of work to do, but never lost faith in me.

Exactly one year ago, I had my knee surgery, and my knee looked like in the picture on the left! One year later it looks much stronger, faster, and just overall better. Thanks to everyone who supported me during this tough time!

Unfortunately, 2015 isn't starting out as I had imagined. I will have knee surgery tomorrow and therefore have to skip this indoor season altogether. For about two months I had frequent pain in my right knee, to which I first didn't pay much attention. Quite the opposite - I had an excellent week of training at camp in Stellenbosch and had high hopes for the indoor season and the indoor championships in Prague. (This is why it pains me even more that I won't be able to compete.)

In December, the pain returned and did not allow me to train consistently. After many talks with my doctor and physical therapist, my trainer Werner Späth and I decided that I should undergo the surgery now to not endanger my chances of preparing for the Olympic games. The goal after the operation is successful rehabilitation and starting training in the spring, so I can compete again at the end of the summer. My main goal is still the Olympic Games in 2016!

With another 6th place in Zurich, this year's Diamond League is coming to an end. 13.04s are a pretty good result for the end of the season, especially since it was on the innermost track, and with slight headwind.

INSANITY!!! Our team is the European champion! And in a home race, no less! Unbelievable! And I contributed with a new PB of 12.80s and second place / 11 points!

My first time participating in the world championship FINALS! I got 7th place with 8.02s. Unfortunately my mistake at the last hurdle clouded my joy somewhat, but being the seventh fastest hurdler in the world is still amazing!

An unbelievable weekend! First a fantastic new best for 60m (7.29s) and then on Sunday I made the hurdles in under eight seconds for the first time ever: 7.98s!!! Not even I would have expected that!

That's what I call a great start for the season: Right away I got a new personal best for 60m, and on the following day I reached the world championship standard during the heat! And during the finals I topped even that and reached the best time! I'm ready for the next runs!

Soon it will be time for indoor season to start - for me it's on Jan 18, doing the 60m hurdles at the Baden-Württemberg Championships. So far, my preparations have been going well, and I'm getting excited!

The first edition of the Amsterdam Flame Games was a great premiere! And I did well in getting 2nd place!

Aug

In the end I got 16th place! I am pretty happy with this result for my first outdoor world championship! The finals were just not in reach. I'm not entirely happy with the time, but considering my reaction time of 0.225s at the start, it's not too bad. Thanks so much to everyone who supported me and held their fingers crossed!

Unbelievable atmosphere at the London Olympic Stadium! After my short notice arrival, I think 13.10s and 6th place are alright.

Fantastic outcome, considering starting in Slovenia was a last minute decision! 13,15s and I won!

Unfortunately, the weather was not on our side: 8°C, rain pouring down, and running against the wind. Considering all that, I'm very pleased with my time!

Great start in Weinheim! 12.99s and 13.00s! Very stable, even though I was almost gone with the wind. This is getting me excited for the next races!

The European Championships didn't go as well as I had hoped, but it was the best I could do considering the circumstances and the injury related lack of preparation.

After this messed up start I'm happy I ended the race in third place, with 13.08s!

This short indoor season ended with an ok 3rd place at the German championships in Karlsruhe. Now it's time to get in gear for summer season!

Jan

After my successful training camp in Stellenbosch, South Africa, I am back to prepare for indoor season. It's almost time!

August

2011

Too bad! This year just wasn't great for me. Too many injuries at the most critical times foiled my plans for participating in the world championships.
But the 2012 Olympic Games in London are still my main goal for next year!

July
23
2011

After a relaxed and pain free pre-run, my flexor was causing problems again. 3rd place is still pretty good, considering the circumstances! Now I need to work on being completely pain free and giving everything in Mannheim!

July
9
2011

Unfortunately, I had to stop during the Madrid run, because my back and upper leg injuries were too painful and I didn't want to risk the rest of the season. Now I'm taking some time to heal so that I'm ready to attack at the German championships!

July
2
2011

Usually I always have good runs in Mannheim, but after a failed start and long discussions my focus and tension were gone!

June
19
2011

What a pity about the short race! The commentator at the stadium and his lengthy speeches didn't help my mediocre race. But I'm still happy about the championship title!

June
8
2011

After an easy run in the beginning, the final run didn't work out for me, unfortunately. At least now I've already done the one bad run of the season and I'm ready to attack next time!

June

2011

Again the wind foiled my plans. This time we had to fight the strong head wind. Nonetheless, 13.20s and first place are a great outcome!

May

2011
After two successful training camps in Orlando and Monte Gordo, today marked the beginning of the season. And right away I got 12.91s! What a great time! Too bad the +2.2 wind wasn't cooperating!

Today was not my lucky day. Everything was fine during warmup, but somehow I can't bring the same into the competition. Oh well, I'm looking forward, and not back! Better luck next week!

January

My first hurdle race this year was certainly one of the worse ones: third place with 8.21s in Glasgow. Unfortunately I missed the start and on top of this, Lolo Jones had removed my 4th hurdle! Oh well, a bad race happens to everyone, and I have checked off mine now. At least the German team won!

January

First race of the season and I made my personal best! It was only on 60m flat, but running 7.47s and 7.41s (PB) with my hurdle pattern and defending the Baden-Wuerttemberg champion's title made for a successful first day and got me excited about the hurdles next week!
